The
Leonberger Club of America is the parent club for Leonbergers in
the United States.
The Leonberger is not an AKC breed (thank goodness!)--the
LCA is the organization that registers American Leonbergers. In
order for American-born Leonbergers to be registered, a litter must
have been bred according to strict breeding regulations. These regulations
have been put in place to protect the health and integrity of the
breed.
If you are looking for a Leonberger in the United
States, be certain to make sure that any breeder you speak with
has their kennel registered with the LCA. They have agreed to follow
a Code of Ethics for responsible breeding, have had both of the
parents' health, temperament and conformation evaluated beforehand.
To find out more about the breeding requirements
of the Leonberger Club of America, and a list of LCA registered
kennels, please visit the LCA website at: http://www.leonbergerclubofamerica.org/
